Day 39 (Time in a Day)

June 15, 2022

Regardless of what I find myself doing there is never enough time in a day to do as much as I’d desire. Focus on the things that can be done.

I awoke early, it starts to get light around 3 AM but needed to wait for the camp reception to open at 8 AM so I could pay. I went back to sleep.

After striking camp I went to the reception and the guy at the desk told me it’s not really possible to back date a reservation. He suggested I just buy some stuff in the shop and we call it even. I did. Mostly things I hadn’t had before including a Kicker, a licorice toffee bar and these cardboard Starbucks brand coffees that were similar to juice boxes. I spent 170 SEK (~$17) which ended up being cheaper than the camp trip.

My plan for the day was to head towards Stavanger and get a decent number of miles in. The route out of Sweden was not especially memorable. The area around the border is mildly industrial with a number of closed business. The cycle ways would appear and disappear frequently. So much so it would have been preferable to just ride along the road the entire way. Just prior to the border between Sweden and Norway And we are there The climbing started but nothing extreme and it was a good break in pace.

And then I passed the border into Norway. I wasn’t expecting it to feel anything about it or be emotional in anyway, but I was. I’m getting down to the end. This was likely my last bordering crossing barring any significant changes.

Border victory

The area after the border was not especially pleasant. I kept waiting for a bench or park to manifest for lunch but didn’t immediately cross anything for almost two hours. I sat on a bench overlooking a fjord and a group of motorcyclists playing beach volleyball while eating snicks and bread coated with the contents of my butter bag.

A couple hours later I got a puncture. No problem easy to fix now that I have all the things. Unfortunately I had a lot issues and it took longer than so expected. The gentleman who helped me yesterday also lubed my chain. Unfortunately it was very, very excessive and wasn’t a clean lubricant like Teflon so I was covered in oil. My lesson on this tour is to generally not trust people when it comes to my bike. I know what’s best. After that I met a Turkish man on a tour through the Nordic countries. We took a picture together but it looks to be lost to the ether. Best of luck friend!

I decided to get an Airbnb as it was reasonably priced and my battery was exceedingly low.

I found a nice bench by some water and stretched on it. I climbed an oddly steep bike bridge. A fast moving river with lots of spots for fishing Steep bike bridge On the bike bridge gangway

I found the room and got settled. I had a number of chores: laundry, bike maintenance, grocery, hygiene, trash, writing, financial things, and others that filled the evening Room

I went to Rema 1000 a grocery store and got a frozen pizza and a cup of noodles for dinner along with supplies for tomorrow. The sky had fascinating cloud shapes. I’d like to understand them better.

Tomorrow, I’m not sure. A bit tired.
