Day 38 (Out of the Fields)

June 14, 2022

A good day. I’m typing this from the bench of a campground in beautiful fjord. Beautiful fjord

I had breakfast at the hotel, which was quite good.

I was initially planning to head back to Gothenburg but decided against it. Trollhättan with several bikes shops was an additional fives miles and wouldn’t involve any backtracking.

Trollhättan was larger than I expected. I found the bike shop and got three tubes and a replacement pump. I was ready to mail the tires I purchased in Silkeborg home and get some Schwalbe Marathons but alas they did not have any.

I went to Lidl and loaded up. The bakery section is not as good as Denmark. IKEA Bridge into park Farmland

I passed an IKEA, rivers, and many agricultural fields. Today reminding me a lot of my day in Buelle.

And then my front left rack broke. The thread attachment to the bottom of the fork sheared completely off. I sat and had a meal as I was kinda irritated and didn’t have anything resembling a good solution.

I eventually concocted something with zip ties and moved the weight in my bags around. The rack wasn’t overrated and within spec. I was pretty disappointed. Aluminum does save weight by the failure mode is so much worse than steel. I sent a not to Salsa as it should still be on warranty.

I continued on. The landscape as I got closer to the sea became increasingly more dramatic. Boardwalk through quaint town Marsh

I cycled until a bit after 8 PM and did around 80 miles all of which felt good.

I attempted to use the first campground but it had some complicated machine and it was going to be in excess of $30 for just a camp site. I started looking for wild camping but found another campground several miles down the road. There was no way to check in and dire warnings but I set up and will figure it out in the morning.

While setting up my tent I was eating a baguette. I sat in on the ground only to have it scooped up by a dog.

I should make it to Norway tomorrow. I’m excited for these landscapes to continue.
